You see the commercials all the time. A group of friends or a family around a table playing a fun board game! They're laughing and encouraging each other! The commercial says that a game really brings out the fun! Or that it really brings the family together! I can say from personal experience (with the exception of the Dalyrmples ha ha ) that is tears a family apart, makes friends enemies, and turns loving marriages into near divorces! Here are some true stories:
I have 3 siblings. When we were little we played board games. Pictionary ALWAYS winded up with someone being hurt b.c. the other person got mad at their teammates lack of drawings or guessing skills and threw the pencil at someone else. Which of course turned into spankings!
The last time my siblings and I played candy land was 2 years ago for my youngest sisters graduation! It turned into a yelling match with the board game being over turned.
About a year ago my youngest sister and I tried to play Operation. I totally won, so she pinned me to the floor until I admitted that I "cheated". It totally turned into a cat fight!
How does that bring smiles to family faces?!
At Tyndall we went to our friends David and Joy to play some games. Somehow all the guesses turned into some of us having a "skanky wardrobe".
How is that bringing friends closer together!?
Currently, my bro and his fiance come over alot to play pictionary, Family Fued, and 100,000 Pyramid. There is a ton of yelling! And the last time we stayed up till 4am until a couple broke the tie!
The most current game night was with a group of friends. I thought for sure Britt was going to kill Brian. And it didn't help that Brian kept talking about what a long ride home he was going to have ha ha. Kari and Brad came in second during Pictionary. I thought they seemed pretty nice to each other, that is until they went to leave and poor Kari had to carry all her dishes up to her chin while Brad ate a piece of cheese ( I could have sworn he was waiting for her to open the door). And then there was Isaac and me. We won, so that was a good thing. However, I can not get over the fact that he could not see that I had drawn a very simply but AWESOME monkey! So, he got a slap. I mean we would have won quicker right!?
I am pretty sure we all wanted a divorce at the end of this game!
Anyways, the point of this blog is to tell you those commercials are a LIE! Milton Bradley is secretly working with lawyers and hospitals to bring in the big bucks! Shame on you Milton Bradley! From hence forth you will be known as Joe the Camel in our house.
I love it Jan! Can't wait for the next one!!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't forget when we were playing Battle of the Sexes and ended up with call signs-Bodice Ripper!

It is so so true. But so much fun to fight at the same time (in an acceptable/competitive way).
